Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has urged residents of the state to respect the ruling of the Supreme Court affirming his victory at the poll last year.
Sule stated this on Friday while speaking to journalists at the State House, Abuja after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
The governor’s statement followed a protest which soon turned into a riot in Nasarawa over the court’s judgement.
The rioters, believed to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the election, David Ombugadu, blocked roads and burnt tyres on the roads, forcing business centres and schools within Lafia metropolis to close.

Sule, who was accompanied by two of his predecessors; former governors Umar Tanko Al-Makura, and Abdullahi Adamu, acknowledged the dissenting views of those unhappy with the verdict while praising the justice system in ensuring “fairness without undue interference”.
He further emphasised the importance of unity, calling on all citizens, irrespective of political affiliations, to join hands in building the state, highlighting Nasarawa as a significant state in the North-Central region, boasting a commercial quantity discovery of minerals and a flourishing agriculture sector.
The Supreme Court, on Friday, affirmed the Court of Appeal judgement that voided the nullification of the election of Sule.
The apex court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel, upheld the declaration of Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of the governorship election that was held in the state on March 18, 2023.
