Spanish FA (RFEF) has made a dramatic U-turn, directing its embattled president, Luis Rubiales to step down over the controversial kiss he shared with female striker, Jenni Hermoso.
The Spanish football governing body, made this known in a recent statement, where it urged the FA president to resign after it initially accused Hermoso of lying about the incident.
This latest development followed the brewing controversy over the kissing scandal, which occurred after the Spanish Women’s Football Team beat England to lift their first FIFA Women’s World Cup.
After the victory, Rubiales was pictured grabbing Hermoso and kissing the player on the lips, with the sticker later saying her consent was not sought before the kiss.

However, Rubiales has refused to step down despite growing criticism and provisional suspension by the world’s football governing body, FIFA.
But days after accusing Hermoso of lying about the incident, the Spanish FA has now told the football chief to resign from his job.
They reached the decision after a meeting of the Commission of Presidents of Regional and Territorial Federations of the RFEF.
The statement reads in part, “After the latest events and the unacceptable behaviours that have seriously damaged the image of Spanish football, the presidents request that Mr. Luis Rubiales immediately present his resignation as president of the RFEF,”
