The Spanish Football Federation President, Luis Rubiales is expected to announce his resignation on Friday, August 25, following his forced kiss with La Roja’s striker, Jenni Hermoso.
Rubiales, who seems to have now bowed to pressure after a lot of criticism, kissed the female striker during the medal presentation of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to Spain.
The 46-year-old football administrator
prompted a huge backlash when he grabbed 33-year-old Hermoso by the head and kissed her on the lips.
After the incident, the Spanish international came out publicly to say that she ‘did not like it’.

The statement reads: “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee informed Luis Rubiales, President of the Spanish Football Association, today that it is opening disciplinary proceedings against him based on the events that occurred during the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ on 20 August 2023.
“The events may constitute violations of article 13 paragraphs 1 and 2 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee will only provide further information on these disciplinary proceedings once it has issued a final decision on the matter.”
FIFA also “reiterates its unwavering commitment to respecting the integrity of all individuals and strongly condemns any behaviour to the contrary”.
Meanwhile, reports in the Spanish media on Thursday night claim Rubiales has decided to resign after calling an emergency general assembly on Friday.
