Former Barca defender, Dani Alves has once again been denied bail by a court in Barcelona, Spain, as the investigation into the alleged sexual assault against him continued on Monday.

Prior to the latest denial, Alves’ defence team had requested the court to free the 40-year-old on bail in February and May, but the judge denied both applications.

Alves has been incarcerated since January, after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a Barcelona nightclub on December 30, 2022.

However, the judge on Monday, after reviewing footage put forward by the defence showing alleged flirting with the accuser again ruled that the former Barcelona star be remanded in prison.

The court dismissed the evidence presented by his lawyers, claiming flirting should not “in any way justify an eventual sexual assault”.

Apart from this, the Brazilian was also declared a flight risk, despite attempts by the defence counsels to willingly give up his passports and install a tracking device on him.

Dani Alves is one of the most decorated footballers in the world, he has won 42 football medals in his career so far.

He won three Champions Leagues while at Barcelona and two Copa Americas with his county, Brazil.

He played in his third World Cup last year in Qatar but the sexual assault allegation has cost him a lot as it led to the termination of his contract with Mexican side Pumas UNAM.
