Soyinka exhibition for Osun, Lagos, Ghana

The ongoing exhibition in honour of Professor Wole Soyinka at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, will later in the month move to Osun State, then Lagos, for a day show and thereafter move to Accra, Ghana.

Organised in conjunction with the Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a countdown to WS80, which marks the 80th birthday of Soyinka, the 80-day long exhibition is part of the fifth edition of the annual Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange Programme.
The exhibition was declared open on April 24 by Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, who had harped on the imperative of youth empowerment and mentoring to enhance nation-building as well as socio-economic development, adding that Nigerian youths deserve to be properly empowered and mentored. This, he said, would help secure the country’s future.
Curated by Olu Ajayi, it features works by notable artists such as Biodun Olaku, Sam Ovraiti, among others, and will run till July 12, a day before Soyinka’s 80th birthday. The celebration will climax on July 13, with series of activities including several drama presentations, spoken word performances, lectures, and essay competitions, among others.
