Southern governors want southern president in 2023, demand respect from security agencies

Southern Governors meeting

Governors from the South have told President Muhammadu Buhari to call his security chiefs to order by recognizing them as the chief security officers of their states.

The governors, comprising members of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and those of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), met in Lagos to deliberate on a number of issues, including open grazing, southern presidency and insecurity.

The southern governors insisted that any law enforcement agency carrying out an operation in any of the states in the South must take permission from the state governor, who is the chief security officer of the state.

Part of the communique reads: “Resolved that if for any reason security institutions need to undertake an operation in any state, the Chief Security Officer of the State must be duly informed.”

The governors also demand the rotation of the presidency in 2023 to the south.

Other issues resolved by the Southern governors include; “Re-emphasised the need for State Police.

“Frowns at selective criminal administration of Justice and resolved those arrests should be made within the ambit of the law and fundamental human rights.”
