Ahead of his team’s clash with the Super Eagles, Hugo Broos, the coach of South Africa has remarked that the Super Eagles are difficult side to navigate and have nothing to prove in terms of their intimidating record in matches against South Africa.
The Belgian coach is seeking to steer South Africa to their first AFCON final match in 26 years.
South Africa last featured in the final match in 1998 when they lost 2-0 to Egypt.
This time, they need to navigate a difficult path as they will meet Nigeria, a team they have never beaten in the Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Besides, an encounter with the Super Eagles, even if friendly, is always grudge-laden.
According to South African publications, Sowetan South Africa’s coach, Broos has taken note of how the Super Eagles have gathered steam in the on-going AFCON.
The newspaper reported that Broos has also noticed the three goals in two knockout games scored by Ademola Lookman.
“When I saw them against Angola, they looked a good team.
“They have a very good side and some very good players, like the player scoring the goals, Lookman. He’s a very good player.
“So we have to analyse a bit more and we will see how we can use the weaknesses, but also look at the good qualities and there are a lot of good qualities in that team.
“It will also be a bit special because in a few months we play them in the World Cup qualifiers, so it can be a test for both of us.”
Peseiro might look for more goals than the lone tournament strike from his star player, Napoli’s classy Arsenal and Real Madrid target Victor Osimhen, who has plenty of destructive potential.
PAOK Thessaloniki centreback William Troost-Ekong, the Fulham pair of defender Calvin Bassey and midfielder Alex Iwobi, Nottingham Forest wingback Ola Aina and Nantes forward Moses Simon are among Nigeria’s other big-name European-based stars
