Spurs gained ground on West Ham after beating them 3-1 in the London derby play at the Tottenham Stadium, a game which has significant ramifications for the last Champions League spot.

Arsenal having won at Aston Villa on Saturday increased the gap between them and the two teams to 6 points, making the game a must-win for both sides.

The home side went ahead when West Ham defender Kurt Zouma guided Kane’s cross into his own net under pressure from Son as early as the 9th minute.

Son made it 2-0 for Spurs in the 24th minute after an assist from Harry Kane to make the game more comfortable for The Lilywhites.

But Said Benrahma had pulled one back for the Hammers in the 35th minute when he scored from Craig Dawson’s header to reduce the deficit.

Son eventually sealed victory when Kane’s flicked header sent him through one-on-one with the keeper and the South Korean coolly slid his finish past Fabianski to earn a brace.

Spurs with the win, have now leapfrogged United into the fifth position and are now just three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

West Ham, on the other hand, stay six points behind Arsenal having played two games more and drop to seventh, two points ahead of Wolves in the eighth position.

Two protesters took to the pitch during the game, but the anti-oil protesters – wearing ‘just stop oil’ t-shirts – were removed by stewards during the second half of the encounter.
