Soludo beats reverse on Obi after reportedly saying he couldn’t win the Villa

Chukwuma Soludo says he wishes Peter Obi “the very best of luck” in his insurgent campaign for the Villa, two months after he reportedly dismissed the idea that his predecessor as Anambra Governor could become the main man in Abuja.
Soludo was reported to have said in June that those dreaming to win the 2023 general election under new parties are jokers and those who joined the Labour Party (LP), like Obi its presidential candidate, would labour in vain.
A political party without a single councillor at the grassroots level has nothing to offer to the people, he was quoted as saying.
Soludo walked back the statement hours later, but Obidients – the vast assemblage youths in Twitterverse rooting for Obi – had taken notice of the earlier report. It stuck with them.
Nonetheless, Soludo doubled down on his take on Tuesday when he spoke to journalists after a meeting with Obi at the Governor’s Lodge in Awka, describing him as “a friend and a brother”.
“It’s a private visit and a private conversation. He is a former governor of the state under the All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA], and you know he is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party and so, he stopped by on a courtesy call to intimate me of his ambition and candidature under Labour party,” he said, as reported by Vanguard.

One of two major Anambra candidates
“He is a friend and a brother and of course, he happened to be one of the two major candidates from Anambra State. He is of the Labour Party and then there is Professor Peter Umeadi, who is the Presidential candidate of APGA.
“The two of them are from Anambra State and I wish them the very best of luck. We are all going to campaign freely and so on and Nigerians will make their choice. The details of our conversations are private.”
Soludo said as Anambra Governor, he can only wish anyone from the state running for any office, including Aso Rock, the best of luck.
Obi commended him and expressed confidence in his ability to succeed as Anambra helmsman, a state Obi himself governed from 2006 to 2014.
