Soldiers attached to the 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi have killed four suspected armed robbers in the state just as 10 suspected kidnapers were arrested.
The Assistant Director Army Public Relations of the brigade, Major Joseph Afolashade, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Bauchi yesterday.
He also disclosed that his men arrested 10 persons suspected to be serial kidnappers during their ongoing operation ‘FOREST KUNAMA’ launched in notorious forests across the state.
Afolashade said that the special operation, which was directed by the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, was aimed at flushing out all criminals taking refuge in thick forests and other hiding places in the state.
He said that the brigade has mobilized adequate troops for the exercise and equipped them with sufficient weapons and vehicles so that they could penetrate into all nooks and crannies to trap the miscreants.
He explained that the soldiers had within the past couple of weeks of the operations succeeded to kill four bandits at ‘Burra’ forest in ‘Ningi’ council and recovered over 100 cows stolen by the thieves which had been handed over to the owner through the village head of the area.
The army spokesman revealed that 19 cows, six sheep and two horses were recovered during the operation.
He said, “The troops also recovered a bag containing the sum of N439, 000 and some personal items from the suspects. The ongoing operation FOREST KUNAMA will continue till the last criminal in Bauchi State is wiped out. The second phase of the exercise to other forests in the state such as ‘Balmo’ forest, ‘Buzu’ forest and ‘Yankari’ forest will commence”.
