‘So, we should pour ashes on our body and start wailing,’ netizens reply Shettima over clown comment after Naira plunges to all time low

Vice President, Kashim Shettima

By Clinton Asuoha

Vice president Kashim Shettima has tagged Nigerians who find the recent increase in dollar rate amusing as ‘clowns.’

In an event in Abuja held on January 31, Shettima said: “It is not only disheartening and disenchanting but also heart breaking that yesterday when the naira culminated to 1500 to the dollar, instead of us to coagulate into a single force and salvage our nation’s economy, sadly, some clowns are celebrating on Twitter of an impending implosion on the Nigerian economy.”

On X, netizens have responded to Shettima for calling them clowns.

@U_Rochas said: “It’s only a man that smokes gum that will expect opposition to clap for him for ruining his country economy.”

@Myka_veli said: “So we should pour ashes on our body and start wailing because you and your principal have refused to fulfil your responsibilities?”

@harrizone98 said: “Shettima’s problems are the ‘clowns celebrating on Twitter’ (don’t know where he got that from), not the collective inability of himself and his colleagues to understand that they don’t have what it takes to better Nigeria. Someone that was bugaing (dancing to Kizz Daniel’s song, ‘Buga’) faraway in Davos while people were dying in Plateau. Tinubu is in France but that isn’t his concern. Clown-O-Crazy.”

@Pinktourmline said: “VP Shettima calling Nigerians clowns for not celebrating his destruction of the economy.”

@callmemcdoe said: “Shettima said those celebrating Naira fall on Twitter are clowns. But we know who the real clowns are.”

@ThankgodAtuegb1 said: “Those celebrating naira’s fall on X are clowns, says Shettima. Hahahahaha, when you fail to plan, you are bound to fail. In as much as we depend on dollar to purchase goods and other transactions, Naria will continue to depreciate until we learn our lesson.”
