Sir Alex Ferguson stopped my joining City, says Ronaldo

Ronaldo during an interview with Piers Morgan, also hit out at former United teammate, Rooney,  for saying the Red Devils are better without him

Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has disclosed that he snubbed Premier League champions, Manchester City because his former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson counselled him against the move.

Ronaldo made the admission during an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, where he said Ferguson discouraged him from signing for United’s city rivals, Manchester City. 

The Portuguese international was heavily linked with the Citizens in the summer of 2021, but he eventually left Serie A giant, Juventus, to return to Old Trafford.

His decision has since then elicited several innuendoes as soccer fans wondered why he chose his old club over their arch-rivals, Man City. 

However,  the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, during the interview cleared the air, claiming he followed his heart.

Ronaldo said, “I followed my heart.

“He [Ferguson] said to me, ‘It’s impossible for you to come to Manchester City,’ and I said, ‘OK, Boss.”

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has hit out at DC United manager and former Manchester United teammate, Wayne Rooney over his recent comment that the Red Devils are a better team without him

The Portuguese international has missed the Red Devils’ last two matches due to illness.
