Shonekan, Akinrinade, Odogwu others extol Alex-Duduyemi’s virtues

Encomiums are pouring in for Oyekunle Alex-Duduyemi, the Aro/Asiwaju of Ile-Ife, who clocks 80 today.

 

Former Head of Interim National Government, Ernest Shonekan; former Chief of Defence Staff General, Alani Akinrinade; and business moguls, Oba Otudeko and Sunny Odogwu; described him as a true Nigerian and an astute entrepreneur.

The occasion was at the lunch of his biography, Quintessential Colossus, at the Metropolitan Club, Victoria Island, Lagos as part of activities marking his birthday.

 

The biography was written by Oluleye Oluwole.

 

Also present at the launch were former Defence Minister, Aliyu Gusau; Adekunle Ojora; All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ayo Adebanjo; former University of Lagos Vice Chancellor, Oye Ibidapo-Obe; and former Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor, Tunde Lemo.

 

Others included former Edo State Governor, Lucky Igbinedion; a representative of Ogun State Governor, Bimbo Ashiru; former presidential aspirant, Harry Akande; the Awujale of Ijebuland, Sikiru Adetona; Olu Falomo; Dipo Ajayi; Chris Okunowo; and Ovation publisher, Dele Momodu.

 

Otudeko noted while presenting the book that aside Alex-Duduyemi being a successful entrepreneur he has over the years devoted his life to philanthropy, ensuring joy in the lives of others.

 

He said the man “is not only a true Nigerian but one willing at all times to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He is an astute entrepreneur, a man of taste and style and above all one with the Midas touch.”

 

Odogwu added that he “is an inspiration to many and a rare breed Nigerian who is honest, trustworthy and upright.”

 

Alex-Duduyemi’s grandchildren read poems praising him for his magnanimity, exemplary lifestyle, philanthropy and giant strides.

 

“I am grateful to God for all His kindness and mercies on me. I thank all that were here to honour me.

 

“I thank my wife and the children for all the energies spent, I appreciate the efforts of the author.

 

“I will stop at nothing to continue to plough back to the society,” he told TheNiche.

 

Activities marking his status as an octogenarian will be rounded off in Lagos today.
