Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has led a delegation of Senior government functionaries, including a Member of the State Assembly, Commissioners, Advisers, and Special Assistants to Government House, Damaturu, to condole with Governor  Ibrahim Gaidam over the death of his former wife, Hajja Maryam Sherrif, who died at 55 years and was buried Monday in Gaidam Town.

“We are here on a very solemn mission to condole the government and people of Yobe State over the passing away of your sister and your wife Hajja Maryam. We felt compelled to come because Borno and Yobe states are like siamese twins. You can’t tell where Borno ends and where Yobe begins. We are essentially one people tied to a common destiny.

“My wife, for instance, is my cousin sister and she was born in Yobe State. My mother was born in Gashu’a town (of Yobe State) but I am from Borno State…There are many others here who have brothers and sisters from and living in both states.

“So, we are here to condole Your Excellency. May Almighty Allah (SWT) grant the soul of our late sister eternal rest and reward her with al-Jannatul Firdausi. And may Allah also grant Your Excellency and the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Yobe State and to her family in particular”, Shettima said.

Governor  Gaidam thanked the Borno State governor and his entourage for the visit.

Agreeing with Governor Shettima on the strong bonds between Yobe and Borno states, Gaidam said that the two states are tied in so many ways and that the bond will only get stronger.

The governor prayed Almighty Allah to reward  Governor Shettima for the visit and take him and those on his entourage back to Maiduguri safely.
