Gumi said Sheikh Khalid’s sermon was a case of sentiment overriding intellect, concluding that it is worse than the few kidnappings

Controversial Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has compared the sermon that got the Chief Imam of Apo Mosque sacked to be worse than the activities of bandits.
The Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, was fired by the Apo Mosque’s steering committee headed by Senator Saidu Dansadau, for what the members of the committee termed an attempt to incite the public against the government.
Sheikh Khalid was suspended from his position on April 1 for saying, during the Friday sermon, that Buhari’s refusal to visit Kaduna after the attack on a train where many of the passengers were either maimed, kidnapped or murdered by terrorists was unjustified because he severally visited the state to solicit votes during electioneering.

The Sheikh also said the president’s reliance on condemnation of the act alone was insufficient because every other person, except the terrorists, condemned it.
He urged the congregants to only vote for people who will identify with and comfort them in their most vulnerable moments.
But the controversial Sheikh Ahmad Gumi said the sermon was worse than banditry.
Gumi was quoted by DAILY POST on Monday describing the sermon as placing sentiment over intellect.
According to Gumi, Sheikh Khalid was wrong for trying to discourage Nigerians from participating in elections to vote out bad leaders, saying he is worse than kidnappers.
He said, “It’s a case of sentiments overriding intellect. Calling masses not to vote (out the) incompetent government by massive voting is worse than the few kidnappings and a misplaced judgment.”
