Shehu Sani also noted that neither the IPMAN nor the NNPCL has officially proposed any increase of pump price

Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has urged those peddling rumours that price of premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise known as ‘petrol’ will increase soon to desist from causing unnecessary tension in the country.
Some media outlets on Tuesday reported that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and fuel marketers under the aegis of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), clashed over the removal of subsidy on petrol.
While IPMAN allegedly suggested that price of PMS has increased in recent times due to the depreciation of the naira against the US dollar at both the official and the parallel market.
NNPCL countered the argument and maintained that it was recovering its full cost on the importation of petrol.
The back and forth from the two organisations has, however, engendered rumours among Nigerians that oil marketers are fighting for the PMS to sell for N1,200/litre in a free market because of the crash of the naira against the dollar.

Reacting to the development, a former legislator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial district in the 8th Assembly, Shehu Sani advised Nigerians to stop spreading the rumours since nothing has been made official by the NNPCL or the marketers.
Speaking via his X handle, he tweeted: “Neither the oil marketers nor the NNPCL proposed any increase of pump price to N1200 per litre.
“Those peddling this rumour should stop so as not to cause unnecessary panic,disruptions and further hardships and suffering.”
After his post made the rounds, Nigerians took to the comment section and called on the federal government to be proactive in keeping citizens informed on the matter.
