A former senator who represented Kaduna Central in the senate, Comrade Shehu Sani, has advised the regime of President Muhammadu Buhari against the arrest of Channels TV reporters – Chamberlain Usoh and Kayode Okikiolu for simply asking questions during a live interview with the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

There are reports that the journalists have been arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) for interviewing the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom and a retired Naval Officer, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi who accused the Buhari’s government of knowing the terrorists running amok in Nigeria.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has also accused Channels TV of running foul of its code by interviewing the two men. Aso Rock is believed to have dictated for NBC what action it should take against Channels TV.

But Sani argued: “A Journalist can only ask questions, he or she can’t be held responsible for the answers or the truths or facts contained in the answers. The arrest of the @channelstv presenters Chambalain Usoh & Kayode Okikiolu is unconscionable. We can’t solve our problems by muzzling the press.”
