Human rights activist and former lawmaker, Shehu Sani has asked President Bola Tinubu to pardon and release the remaining “EndSARS” protesters still being incarcerated.
He gave the advice on Monday in a post he shared on his X page, saying the president should release the detainees in the spirit of June 12.
According to the former senator who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate, the gesture will be symbolic as Nigeria marks this year’s “Democracy Day” on June 12.

Speaking via his verified social media post, Shehu Sani wrote: “In the spirit of the June 12 struggle which we fought 30 years ago, I call on the President to release all persons still held in the Nigerian Prisons because of the #EndSARS protest.”
In 2020, some Nigerian youths took to the streets to protest against police brutality and the situation of the country.
The protest led to attacks on police stations, formations, and other government offices across the country, which subsequently forced security agents to apprehend the protesters.
While some of those arrested were eventually released, others are still being held up.
