Human rights activist and former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has confirmed that the Nigerian government terminated the appointments of some of its workers who obtained degrees from some Benin Republic Universities.

The former Kaduna State Senator made this known on Monday via a terse statement he shared on his official X page.

He, however, did not state the reason for the sack, despite experiencing shock over the development.

Speaking via his verified social media handle, Shehu Sani tweeted, “So sad to read the termination letters of some of the FG staff who graduated from the universities in Benin Republic.”

His tweet comes amid a report by popular investigative journalist, Umar Audu, that some Nigerians obtained fake certificates from Benin Republic Universities earlier this year.

The reporter added while carrying out the investigation, he bought a certificate from a Benin University degree for N600,000.

Following the report, the Nigerian government announced suspension of degrees from some Universities in the West African country and other places.

Prior to this, the federal government had blacklisted 18 foreign universities in Nigeria.
