Shehu Sani mourns ace Afrobeats singer, Onyeka Onwenu

Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani has eulogized veteran Nigerian singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu, who passed away on Tuesday, July 30 at the age of 72. 

TheNiche had earlier reported that the iconic singer died after performing at the 80th birthday party of the founder of Emzor pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Stella Okoli.

According to the report, after slumping at the birthday party, she was rushed to  Reddington Hospital, where she was eventually pronounced dead.

Reacting to the death of the music maestro via his X page, Shehu Sani noted that while alive, Onwenu “spread messages of love and peace.”

The former senator went on to acknowledge that the nation has lost a “timeless legend and a great artiste who sang from the heart”.

Speaking via his verified social media handle, he tweeted,  “Onyeka: the Nation has lost a timeless legend and a great artist who sang from the heart, spreading the messages of love and peace through music. Your melodies will forever resonate in our souls. Rest in peace.”
