Human rights activist and former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani has praised the Nigerian female basketball team, D’Tigress after they qualified for the quarter final of the ongoing Paris Olympics.
TheNiche had earlier reported that D’Tigress on Sunday moved to the last eight stage of the women’s basketball event at the Paris Olympics after defeating world No.5 ranked team, Canada 79-70.
They had earlier beaten world number 3, Australia and lost to the host, France before seeing off the North Americans.
The victory earned them their first-ever appearance in the quarter-final of an Olympics basketball tournament.
Reacting to the development, Shehu Sani, who once represented Kaduna Central senatorial district at the senate, eulogised the women for making history.

He further noted that before their qualification, African teams have only won once in 37 games at the Olympics.
Speaking via his X page, the former senator, tweeted, “D’Tigress takes its place in history as the first African team to reach the Quarter- Finals (Men or Women).
“Before this historic outing, teams from Africa tallied only one win in 37 games played in the Women’s tournament.”
