Former Senator now social critic Shehu Sani has alleged protesters were bribed to fly the Russian flag in Kano, Zamfara, and other Northern states to sow the seed for the overthrow of Bola Tinubu as President.
Tinubu and military top brass have expressed concern over the flying of foreign flags in the North by elements who posed as part of the #EndBadGovernance protesters.
The protesters who were captured on several video clips flew the Russian flag and clamoured for the return of military rule to Nigeria.
Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has since announced the arrest of some of the flag fliers and their sponsors.
Sani declared on Channels Television that hoisting the Russian flag was an attempt by anti-Tinubu folks to overthrow him and his administration.
Said he: “A day before the last protest, money was shared to the youths, and Russian flags were also shared.
“That shows that the whole intent of the protest is not simply about the policies and programmes of the government.
“There was an attempt to create an atmosphere where there would be an overthrow of the government.
“When you have this kind of situation, you will see that someone is writing a script for anarchy, lawlessness, and disorder. It is incumbent for someone like us to speak.”
