The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir David Lawal, has called on Telecommunications Professionals in the country to support the government to fight crime.
According to the SGF in a statement issued by his assistant director press, Mohammed T. K. Nakorji, criminal activities today are perpetrated with the use of modern communication technology such as remote detonating devices.
He therefore enjoined professionals in the field to come up with recommendations that government can utilize in the war against crime.
He was speaking in his office, when he received a delegation from the Association of Telecommunications Professionals led by the President, Mr. Adede John Williams.
The SGF assured the Association that the doors of the government are open to useful and implementable ideas that will further develop the telecommunications sector and noted the importance of the sector to the economy both in terms of employment generation and as a revenue generator.
The President of the Association of Telecommunications Professions, Mr. Williams explained that the Association is a non-profit Think-Tank of practicing Telecommunication Professionals in the private and public sectors.
He acknowledged the contributions of the SGF to the association as a practitioner of repute and pledged the support of the association to him in his capacity as SGF.
He made the remark when His Excellency, the Envoy of Gambia to Nigeria, Ambassador Famara Gaye paid him a courtesy visit.
He expressed delight at the cordial relationship that exists between the two countries and noted that Nigeria appreciates the courtesy and respect accorded over 30,000 Nigerians who reside in the Gambia.
He urged the Gambian authorities to take advantage of the huge market in Nigeria in trade relations, and assured the envoy that the doors of Nigeria are open for legitimate business.
Ambassador Gaye in his comments expressed the gratitude of the Republic of Gambia to Nigeria for the technical assistance extended to the country over the years in various fields including banking, aviation, teaching and judiciary.
He noted that Nigeria will surely attain greater heights under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, who he said he personally admires and regards as the President of the African continent.
