The Senate President, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, has pledged the commitment of the National Assembly to work with the Executive arm to fix all deplorable federal government roads in Niger State.

Lawan gave the assurance at the reception to unveil Senator Mohammed Sani Musa ‘Strategic Senatorial Action Plan’ in Minna, Niger State.

He said that it was also time to revive the railway system to boost the economy particularly in the rural areas.

The Senate president said: “We will work with the executive arm of government for the benefit of the people of Niger State and indeed the country to ensure that we achieve our common goal of taking Nigeria to the next level.

“I think it is time to make our railways work again because the movement of heavy haulage on the roads really spoilt all our roads. Even if we repair the roads these heavy trailers will still spoil them.

“I do not have to drive through the roads to know it’s bad. I have heard a lot about it. Niger State does not need to lobby for Chairman, Senate Committee on Works while I am particularly involved.”

Lawan, however, reassured Nigerians of providing a united and purposeful leadership that will transform the security, economy and social wellbeing of the country citizens.

“It is now four months after elections. All parties should face governance and put aside our differences regardless political affiliations. All what the people want are security, good economy and a better life.”

He also promised to support the actualization of the aspirations of the people of Niger East senatorial zone of Niger State as well as all other senatorial zones in the country.

The Senate president then commended Senator Musa for organizing the programme, while describing the three Senators from the state as loyal and very good representives of the state.

The Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, in his speech, appealed to the Senate President to consider a senator from the state as Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, adding that the state has the highest number of Federal roads but most of them are not motorable.

The governor said: “I will plea with the Senate to always ply the Minna-Suleja road so that you can understand the deplorable level of our roads. And, we must find a way of handling these trailers on our roads, if not our roads will not last.”

Unveiling his strategic action plan for his senatorial district, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, disclosed that he would propose legislations that would enhance family welfare, tackle poverty, improve employment and empowerment among others in the upper house of the National Assembly.

Musa disclosed that all of his allowances and every constituency allocation would be released for the execution of projects in his constituency.
