Senate releases names of banned anti-malaria medicines

The Nigerian Senate has provided a list of 42 banned anti-malaria medicines that are still in circulation in hospitals and pharmacies and are consumed by Nigerians. According to report, the drugs have been banned in Europe but are still in the Nigerian market. The Senate mandated its committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary), led by Senator Olarewaju Tejuoso, to urgently carry out “a holistic investigation into the matter and report back for further action.”  Senator T.A Orji representing Abia Central, who raised the motion said: “The Senate notes that recently the European Union banned the sale and consumption of 42 Anti-Malaria Drugs in all countries within the European Union.”

The 42 Anti-Malaria Drugs include Arinate 100mg tablet (artésunate) B/6, Camoquin 200mg tablet (amodiaquine) B/55 blisters and others.
