Senate confirms Lauretta Onochie as NDDC board chairman

Until her appointment to the NDDC, Onochie was President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media.

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Lauretta Onochie as the substantive Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board.

Until her appointment to the NDDC, Onochie was President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media.

Also, the Senate confirmed 12 other NDDC nominees except two who did not attend the screening conducted last Friday.

Last week, President Buhari sent a letter to the Senate seeking the confirmation of Onochie as NDDC board chairman.

Buhari had also named 14 others in the letter as managing director, executive directors, and members of the board.

They include Samuel Ogbokwu from Bayelsa State, as the Managing Director, who would serve for two years to complete the term of his predecessor in office.

Other members are Dimgba Erugba (Abia State), Emem Wills (Akwa Ibom), Denyanbofa Dimaro (Bayelsa State), Orok Duke (Cross River) and Pius Odudu (Edo State).

Others include Engineer Anthony Ekenne (Imo State), Gbenga Edema (Ondo State), Elekwachi Dimkpa (Rivers State), Mohammed Abubakar (Nasarawa State, representing North-Central zone), Sadiq Sule – Ikoh ( Kebbi State, North-West) and Prof. Tahir Mamman (Adamawa State, North-East).

Buhari also nominated Major-General Charles Airhiavbere (retd) from Edo State as the (Executive Director, Finance) and Charles Ogunmola, from Ondo State, as the Executive Director, Projects.
