Semi Ajayi says Nigeria must avoid defeat against Cote d’Ivoire

Super Eagles defender, Semi Ajayi has said Nigeria must not lose Thursday’s encounter against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, saying they know the importance of their African Cup of Nations’ second group game.

Nigeria are under pressure to win the game after they drew their first game against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

According to the West Brom defender, he and his teammates know what is at stake and can’t afford to lose against the hosts.

Speaking before the highly anticipated encounter, he said: ”We know what’s at stake, is either we win or put ourselves under more pressure.

“We have put the first game behind us and the focus now is to beat Cote d’Ivoire.

“Everyone is looking forward to the game and our fans can be sure we will do our best out there.”

The encounter slated for the Alassanne Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan will kick-off at 6pm Nigerian time.

Prior to this, the Super Eagles had to come back from a goal down to force a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in their first group game. 

They currently sit joint second in Group A behind Cote d’ivore, who defeated Guinea Bissau 2-0 and earned the maximum 3 points in their first match.
