Man United have been handed a major boost ahead of their Premier League clash with arch-rival Man City on Sunday evening at the Etihad, as Scott McTominay was seen in training on Tuesday.

The midfielder was missing for Uniteds’ Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano last week and Watford’s goalless draw at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Scott McTominay missed both games through illness, with Ralf Rangnick confirming he had felt unwell hours ahead of the game in Madrid. His situation did not improve before the clash with the Hornets, leading to him being left out once again.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Rangnick said: “He is still ill, he hasn’t been training with us, so hopefully he will start training with us again next week.”

Man United, however, confirmed via a post on their website on Wednesday, that the midfielder is now back with the squad at Carrington.

McTominay produced a brilliant display during Man United’s Premier League 4-2 comeback win over Leeds United last month and will be needed against their highly flying neighbours.

He scored a memorable goal against Man City in front of a packed Old Trafford back in 2020 before the pandemic struck, and will be hoping to be involved at the Etihad in the clash with the Premier League leaders.

The 25-year-old midfielder was seen training with the likes of Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho who started on the bench against the Hornets on Saturday but could be in contention for starting spots in the derby.
