Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has said three Manchester United players are responsible for their score draw against La Liga leaders, Barcelona in their UEFA Europa League playoff first leg at Camp Nou on Thursday night.

The Red Devils and the La Liga giant settled for a thrilling 2-2 draw with former Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso opening the scores for the hosts with a header in the 50th minute.

Marcus Rashford restored parity for  Manchester United two minutes later before his cross into the box forced  Jules Kounde to score an own goal which gave the visitors a 2-1 lead.

However, Xavi’s side drew level in the 76th minute when former Leeds United winger, Raphinha crossed a ball that found its way into the back of the net.

Owen Hargeaves had earlier criticised Red Devils left-back Tyrell Malacia, who lost the former Alonso as he darted in at the back post.

Agreeing with that, Scholes also blamed midfielder Fred and goalkeeper David De Gea for the goal.

“When you look at the first goal, it is Malacia who doesn’t pick up Alonso, he lets him free, really,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“Fred as well, probably didn’t challenge as well as he could. It is a basic bit of movement from Alonso and Malacia doesn’t stay with him.

“I also think the goalkeeper should do better… David looks a little bit worried about colliding with the post.”

United will face Barcelona in the return leg at Old Trafford in a fortnight and the winner over the two encounters will progress from the rounds of 32 of the Europa League.
