Ex-Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, has said his former club are now in the English Premier League (EPL) title race this season, after their derby win over local rivals and league champions, Manchester City.

The Red Devil came from behind to win the highly tactical encounter played at Old Trafford on Saturday 2-1 after Pep Guardiola’s men threw away a one-goal lead.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford struck late in the game to cancel Jack Grealish’s 60th-minute opener.

Manchester United after the derby win leapfrogged Newcastle United into the third position and are now a point behind Manchester City in second.

Scholes, who has been critical of Manchester United’s hierarchy, while talking on BT Sport after the match admitted that his former club are now in the EPL title race.

The United legend, however, felt Manchester City are still favourites to win the Premier League this season, because he expects them to chase down leaders, Arsenal, despite the derby loss.

He said: “We’ve learned that Manchester United can beat a big team when the pressure is on and when they need to.

“Are they in the title race? I think you have to say they are. If they keep people fit, they are one point behind Man City now.

“City are still the favourites for me, they’re still the best team in this league,”

Arsenal, who remain 5 points clear at the top of the league after City dropped points at the home of their local rivals, can go eight points clear if they beat Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
