Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, says he is yet to come to terms with the event of October 20, 2020 where protesters were killed at the Lekki Tollgate.
The protesters had assembled at the Lekki Tollgate after the Lagos State government declared curfew in the state as a countermeasure to end the stubborn protest which was entering it’s third week.
The federal government then deployed soldiers to the Lekki Tollgate to disperse the protesters who had already camped at the venue. The soldiers then fired live rounds into the crowd, killing many on the spot.
In a tweet to mark the gruesome event which happened exactly one year ago, Saraki said: “On the first anniversary of October 20th, 2020, like many Nigerians, I have struggled with coming to terms with the sobering events of that day. My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their lives, loved ones, and sustained injuries or other losses.”
