Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus and other prominent members of the party were on Friday, October 5, 2017, teargassed at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
They were at the INEC office to protest the result of the just ended Osun election which
saw their candidate, Ademola Adeleke, lose to the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.
A video circulating on social media shows crowd of PDP supporters protesting the result.
In the video, Senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye was seen being pushed about by a crowd while Senator Ben Murray-Bruce was seen at the background trying to appeal for calm.
Tweeting on the event, Murray-Bruce said they have a right to a peaceful protest in a democracy.
“We have a democratic right to peaceful protest and freedom of association. This act is unconscionable in a democracy,” Murray-Bruce said.
