Sanusi receives appointment letter despite court order barring his reinstatement as Kano Emir

The reinstated Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has received his reappointment letter from the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf despite a court order barring his reinstatement.

A federal High Court presided by Justice Mohammed Liman had halted the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi following an application by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate.

But the Kano State government says the court order came a little too late as Sanusi’s reinstatement had already taken place before the court ruled on it.

At a ceremony in the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf said the decision to reinstate Sanusi followed extensive deliberations that were fully backed by the Emirate Council’s kingmakers.

He expressed profound gratitude to the members of the State House of Assembly for their diligence in the passage of the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Bill which paved the way for this reinstatement.

“I am confident that Sanusi II will utilise his vast experience and intellect to bring about positive change and progress to our esteemed emirate,” Governor Yusuf stated.

He further affirmed the legality of the reinstatement noting, “Once a bill is signed, it becomes law and by the power of that law, Sanusi II stands reinstated.”
