Kaduna Governor Uba Sani has vowed his administration will ensure justice for Ismail Muhammad, the 16-year-old boy shot and killed by a soldier in the hunger protest on August 6.
The life of the kid was snuffed out at his family house when troops deployed by President Bola Tinubu stormed the Samaru community in Zaria to disperse unarmed protesters and enforce a curfew Sani imposed the previous day.
The family said the child did not participate in the protest which not even held in their community.
The army confirmed in a statement on Wednesday the soldier has been arrested and detained pending conclusion of investigation.
Sani in a statement he personally signed on Thursday pledged the deceased would get justice, disclosing he had earlier sent a delegation of top government officials and heads of security agencies to visit and condole with the family of the teenager.
“The team was led by the Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan,” Sani said.
“While the team was with the family, I spoke on the phone with the father of the deceased, Muhammad Hussaini, and expressed our deepest condolences.
“I told him that we are deeply pained by the unfortunate incident and will leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice is served. A full and thorough investigation will be conducted and the culprit will be brought to book.
“I will stay in close contact with the family of the deceased in these trying times.”
