The police attached to Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello of Niger State on Sallah day rejected the food and meat offered to them in the Governor’s village, Kontagora, where he had gone to spend the festive season with his father and their kinsmen.
The policemen, who had accompanied the governor to Kontagora from Minna for the eid-el-kabir, our correspondent gathered, did not hide their displeasure after discovering that the meal of fried rice offered them was tasteless and therefore ordered that the food be returned to the source.
Worried by the low quality of the food served to them, one of the policemen was said to have demanded to know if it was the same meal that Governor Bello, his father and other guests, who visited were served.
The policeman’s curiosity, eyewitness explained, was predicated on the fact that, the Chef or cooks who prepared the day’s meals should have been sanctioned for the low quality food.
“It is possible the Governor did not eat the same meal that was given to policemen that accompanied him for the Sallah; if not he would have questioned the Chef or cooks that prepared it because the food was not just tasteless but has no salt”, the source said.
Some of the officers, who did not hide their displeasure said, “It is possible that a different cook was engaged to prepare the food because everything about the food is different from that of other dignitaries. Are the security personnel less human than others?”
Efforts to get the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Malam Jibrin Ndace, to confirm the tasteless meal offered to the security men in the Governor’s convoy as at the time of filing this report proved abortive as he was said to be out of office when our correspondent visited. His mobile telephone number also, could not be reached.
