Manchester United and Portugal striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, have said he thinks the Red Devils have gone backward, as he asserted three of their Premier League (PL) rivals are now way ahead of them.

The club from the red half of Manchester is one of the two most successful teams in England, the other being Liverpool, having won 20 league titles, 12 FA Cups, five League Cups and three Champions Leagues since the club was founded.

But they have found success hard to come by since their legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson left the Premier League outfit almost a decade ago.

Since his exit from Old Trafford, Man United have only lifted three trophies – the FA Cup in 2016 and the League Cup and Europa League in 2017

However, speaking during an interview with TalkTV’s Piers Morgan, the Portugal captain said his current club has retrogressed since Ferguson retired.

He went on to say PL rivals such as Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have gone two steps ahead of United, because they refused to follow the proper pathway to success.

Ronaldo said,  “Since Sir Alex Ferguson left, I haven’t seen an evolution at the club.

*Manchester United hasn’t followed the right way to reach success, like other teams, for example, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. They are one step behind or two.”
