Rivers State will develop rapidly because I will not vie for Vice Presidency in 2019 —Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has assured the people of the state that they will witness rapid development because he will not expend their resources to contest for the office of the Vice President in 2019.

He also made the pledge on behalf of his deputy, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo. He said that the resources of the state will be committed to the growth of the state.

The governor spoke at a state banquet organised for key stakeholders on Monday night in Port Harcourt.

He said : “I will never use the resources of Rivers State to sponsor outside politicians and political parties. All resources of the state will be committed to improving the state and our people.

“For me and my deputy, we will never use the funds of Rivers State to contest for the office of the Vice President in 2019. This is an administration built on transparency, accountability and probity”.

He said that era of diverting state resources for unprofitable political sponsorship was defeated by the people of Rivers State, noting that it will never be re-introduced.

Governor Wike urged all stakeholders in the Rivers project to support his administration to build on the successes of his first 100days in office.

Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus commended Governor Wike for delivering Rivers State for evil circle of corruption, abandoned projects and ungodly governance promoted by former Governor Amaechi.

He described the Amaechi administration as a dark chapter in the history of Rivers State which characterised by brigandage, theft of state resources and general conflict across the state.

Several other leaders urged the governor to remain focused to deliver good governance to the people.
