Popular Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie has advised the Nigerian government on how to end the unrest in the South East of the country.

Speaking via her social media page on Monday, the veteran thespian called on the Federal Government (FG) to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

According to her, if the IPOB leader, who is currently facing trial is released from detention, the unrest in the South East will become a thing of the past.

Rita Edochie went on to warn the elites in the country to stop playing politics with people’s lives.

Sharing a video of the IPOB leader on her Instagram page, she wrote: “Release Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu today and see the unrest in the South East become history.

“Stop playing with people’s lives, especially all you elites that your children are overseas and you are using other people’s children to create unrest.

“If you are one of them your generation and generation to come will never know peace [sic].

Nnamdi Kanu was arrested in June 2021 in Kenya by the Nigerian government in collaboration with security agencies of the East African county and repatriated to continue his trial.

Prior to this, the IPOB leader was first arrested in October 2015 and subsequently arraigned on an 11-count charge bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony after agitating for the secession of the South East states, to form Biafra.

However, he jumped bail in September 2017 and left the country after a military raid on his home. This led the court to revoke his bail in March 2019 and order his re-arrest.
