Veteran Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie has urged the Nigerian government to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu if the country desires peace and tranquility.
She also condemned the continued detention of the IPOB leader after the Appeal Court freed him, urging people of Igbo extraction to come together and fight for his release.
Rita Edochie made the statement in a post she shared on her Instagram page on Monday, November 21, where she noted that the south-east could never become Nigeria’s number one citizen without Kanu’s support.
She said, “The continuous detention of Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu will keep dividing Nigeria. So long as Kanu is still being detained, Nigeria will never know peace. Ndi Igbo I laugh, ndi Igbo wake up. Onye Igbo can never smell presidency without Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu.

“It is a spiritual thing. Fight for your own first, and God will finish the battle. Ndi Igbo let nothing happen to our great brother Nnamdi Kanu because it’s going to be our worst experience. Chukwu okike abiama is waiting for Ndi Igbo to act. God is not sleeping.”
A Court of Appeal of the Abuja Division last month discharged Kanu of the 15-count terrorism charges brought against him by the federal government, and The appellate court, in a unanimous decision, faulted the process through which Kanu was brought before the Federal High Court to answer to 15-count terrorism charges.
The separatist leader has been in the Department of State Services (DSS) custody since he was extradited from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021.
Kanu is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony instituted against him by the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, at the High Court in response to years of the campaign for the independent Republic of Biafra through IPOB.
