The House of Representatives has revealed plans to set up an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate what they term as invasion of property and arrest of persons by the Department of State Services (DSS).
This is following the operations carried out over the weekend by the agency, in which several judicial officers were picked up.
A lawmaker, Kingsley Chinda, presented the matter as a motion of urgent national importance, saying that the trend, if unchecked, could result in the introduction of self-help by citizens.
According to the lawmaker, it is important to understand if the security agency is legally empowered to investigate issues of corruption and professional misconduct.
The House Ad-hoc committee is to investigate if the action of the DSS is not outside its duties as prescribed by the National Securities Act.
Senate Condemns Arrest Of Judges
The Senate has also condemned what it called an invasion of the homes, arrest and detention of serving judges by the directorate of the Department of State Services (DSS) without deference to the constitutional responsibility of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Senator Joshua Lidani, brought the matter before the Senate at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki said that the Senate was in full support of the fight against corruption but the government must ensure that the war on corruption is fought within the rule of law.
