The House of Representatives has granted President Bola Tinubu’s wish by confirming Olufemi Oluyede, a lieutenant general, as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

His confirmation by the members of the House of Representatives came after a report was presented by Babajimi Benson, the chairman of the Committee on Defence.

While presenting the report, Benson described the screening exercise as “satisfactory” and stated that Gen Oluyede gave a good account of himself.

He said, “The committee was satisfied with his academic and professional qualifications, exposure, conduct, character, and experience.”

He further added that the committee recommended that the nominee should be confirmed by the House.

The Committee of the whole, chaired by Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu, thereafter, unanimously approved the recommendation.

Prior to his appointment, the Joint Committee on Army and Defence had screened Oluyede on Wednesday.

He was nominated by President Tinubu as the Acting COAS due to the ill health of the former Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, who later passed on.
