The Vice Chancellor of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, Professor Uche Ikonne, has urged cult members to renounce their allegiance to the kingdom of darkness and contribute positively to society.
Ikonne, who spoke during the rededication of the school to God, asked students to renounce their cult membership openly.
He said the students’ union government will hold an anti-cultism rally to sensitise students and the host community on the dangers of cults.
He confirmed that a security unit has been designated to protect those who renounce their membership against attack.
ABSU has formed a joint security committee, comprising ABSU management, Uturu vigilante group, private hostel owners, and security agencies to strengthen security and check cultism on campus.
Ikonne disclosed that activities lined up for ABSU convocation this year include the award of first degrees to 2,958 students and post-graduate degrees to 603.
