Remo Stars surrendered their lead to go down 1-2 in Ilorin against Kwara United.

An infuriated Coach Gbenga Ogunbote expressed displeasure that the team is dropping points against others that are playing catch-up with his side.

Kwara United were beaten 3-0 loss in the reverse fixture played in Ikene on MatchDay 19.

Ogunbote spoke at the end of the match and lashed at the players who he said were careless to have lost the match after going ahead.

“We had chances to double our lead but couldn’t utilise our opportunities and were careless with silly errors which cost us today”.

“We have to concentrate on our next match against MFM at home to ensure we are not losing ground with teams around us”, Ogunbote Said.

Jide Fatokun nearly raised the curtains for the host inside the opening five minutes when he connected a corner but his effort went straight to the hands of goalkeeper, Kayode Bankole.

It was Remo Stars that subsequently had a sight of goal in the 11th minute when Ogunribide Seun’s long throw found Andy Ekpe whose header went inches wide.

As both sides searched for an opener, Haruna Hadi produced a moment of class in the 34th minute when he ran onto a long ball down the right before lobbing the displaced Dele Aiyenugba who had raced out of his goal to put Remo Stars ahead.

Eleven minutes later, Kwara United pulled themselves level from a corner. Stephen Jude headed in from near post after the visitors had failed to clear their line.

Both teams made quick changes in the opening 15th minutes of the second half with Samad Kadiri and Ayobami Junior coming in for Issa Gata and Junior Lokosa while Gbenga Ogunbote traded the duo of Qudus Akanni and Haruna Hadi for Sikiru Alimi and Adebayo Lekan.

The game became tensed as both sides were not giving anything away until the 75th minute when Kadiri powered in a header from Kabir Balogun’s delightful cross to win the game for the Kwara United.

An elated Kwara United coach, Abdullahi Biffo commended his players for grinding out the maximum points in a tough match against hard fighting Remo.

“Having gone behind, we had to dig deep to win the match despite our off field challenges.

“We showed that we have one of the best squad in the league and we will continue to make use of what we have to achieve our objectives for the season” he said.
