Nigerian singer and rapper, Divine Ikubor, known professionally as Rema has begged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the lingering strike as it crosses the 60-day mark.

ASUU began a one-month warning strike on February 14th and extended it by another two months, over the alleged failure of the government to fulfill its agreements.

While students awaited the strike to come to an end, the 21-year-old rapper took to his Twitter handle to condemn the crisis which continued to cripple learning activities in universities nationwide.

Rema, who is on the label of Mavin Records, announced to his fans in January that he had gained admission to the University of Lagos.

According to him, despite his growing fame in the music industry, his mother insisted that he obtained a University degree.

He lamented that since he got admission into the University of Lagos, he has been unable to attend any classes.

“ASUU, since dem give me admission I neva start school o, e don do nau!” Rema wrote in Pidgin.

Meanwhile, Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, at his last meeting with ASUU told the union to look for better ways to pressurize the ministry of Education rather than embarking on strike.

The minister noted that he has no control over the current impasse between the Federal Government and the ASUU, adding that things are above his control since he is not the Minister of Education.

Rema rose to prominence with the release of the song “Iron Man”, which appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist.

In 2019, he signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records.
