Rema makes history as ‘Calm Down Remix’ becomes first Afrobeats song to hit 1 billion views on YouTube

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema made history after his hit song, ‘Calm Down Remix’ which featured American music star, Selena Gomez, garnered 1 billion views on YouTube.

As at Saturday, a quick check on the video of the song which was uploaded on Gomez’s YouTube page two years ago, showed it has surpassed 1 billion views, making it the first Nigerian song to achieve the milestone.

Apart from this feat, the song also won the accolade for the fastest African song to reach 1 billion views on YouTube.

Meanwhile, the original version of the song has gathered over 619 million views on the same social media platform.

In August last year, ‘Calm Down remix’ with Selena Gomez became the first African song to hit the billion mark in Spotify’s history.

It currently has over 1.5 billion streams on Spotify.
