A human rights and advocacy organisation, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has reacted to the threats by Nigerian government through the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed to regulate the social media.SERAP described the move as unconstitutional.
“Freedom of expression online and offline is fully protected by Section 39 of the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended).
“Threatening to regulate the social media to block Nigerians from exercising their human rights and criticizing the government is blatantly UNCONSTITUTIONAL.” SERAP tweeted on Saturday November 21.
