Recruitment saga: PSC again debunks rumour of reviewing candidates list

By Jeffrey Agbo

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Tuesday said the rumour that it is reviewing the list of successful candidates for the 2022 constable recruitment exercise is false.

The PSC has been embroiled in a row with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) over the recruitment exercise.

On June 4, the commission released the list of 10,000 successful applicants for constable and specialist cadre roles in the Force.

But the police rejected the list, alleging that the recruitment exercise was marred by corruption and irregularities. However, the Commission vowed not to cancel the list, prompting the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, to step into the matter.

The matter had yet to be resolved.

However, in a statement, PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani advised successful candidates to be patient and await its official statement on the recruitment exercise.

Ani said, “The Commission wishes to clarify that it has at no time issued any statement on (i) review of the list of successful candidates or (ii) inviting successful candidates to check their application on the newly launched portal.

“The Commission has not at any time advised candidates to print any updated invitation slip and proceed to the Police Training Colleges. It has also not announced any date for the training programme and the Monday, July 22nd, 2024 date, bandied in social media is just the imagination of the impostors.

“The Commission wishes to advise candidates to be patient and await its official statement on the just concluded recruitment exercise. ”

Ani warned the purveyors of the fake reports to desist as they would be made to face the wrath of the law when apprehended.

This is the second rebuttal by the commission on the matter.
