Choice of Nollywood star, Funke Akindele, as deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has received both knocks and praises.
Recall that Akindele’s husband, JJC Skiltz recently announced that she kicked him out of their matrimonial home after the union suffered some cracks.
The announcement of Akindele as running mate to the PDP governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran today, July 12, elicited critical comments from netizens, including an indirect jibe from the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who said: “Whoever that cannot manage his or her home, cannot manage a town. Ire oo.”
When netizens queried him over the comment, he added: “Haaa, na u dey mention names oo, i no dey oo, .. make i dey go my patrol jeje. Ire oo.”
Other commenters as @DanilelRegha said: “Funke Akindele you have done nothing to prove that u are worthy to govern Lagosians; Politics is no child’s play. Contest for local government chairman first, let the people see how competent you are before moving to the top. By the way, your focus right now should be fixing your home.”
@Tee_Clasiiquem1 said: “Lagos PDP actually moved from Jimi Agbaje to giving their governorship ticket to Jandor and Funke Akindele, no wonder Sanwo Olu isn’t taking his campaign seriously after winning the return ticket, I’m even beginning to think APC is the one in-charge of PDP faction in Lagos state.”

@biodun_alao said: “Lagos PDP is not a serious party. You want to win Lagos, and you’re putting up Funke Akindele as a running mate? Very laughable. It is safe to say PDP is working for APC in low-key in Lagos.”
But others disagree that Akindele weakens the ticket. @TheLolaChukwu said: “People arguing about Funke Akindele’s eligibility forget she has a law degree. Also, being an actor must mean someone is dumb to some of you. If only y’all know the brains it takes to study script after script and actually be as credible a thespian as she is.”
@ab_akam said: “I hate that entertainers are hardly taken seriously outside entertainment. Funke Akindele has OND in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and a Law Degree from University of Lagos, but many Nigerians won’t take her seriously because they can’t see her beyond Jenifa.”
