Reactions as Senator Hanga donates 5,000 white fabric, other burial materials to constituency in Kano Central

The Senator representing Kano Central, Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, has donated 5,000 pieces of white fabric, clay pots and a hearse (van for conveying dead bodies) to his constituency to ease the burial of deceased persons.

In Muslim burial tradition in the North, white fabric is used to wrap a deceased. Broken clay pots are then used as first covering before sand.

The donation by Senator Hanga is in line with Muslim tradition in the North where bereaved families are not burdened with the cost of burial. In most cases, the burial comes with zero cost to families of the deceased as most mosques have burial materials readily available, including ambulances to convey a dead body to a cemetery. The materials come from such donations.

Notwithstanding, Senator Hanga’s donation has been received with mixed reactions on X.

@VoiceofHausa said: “This is a constituency project of Sen. Rufa’i Sani Hanga, Senator representing Kano Central. Instead of building hospitals, he distributed 5,000 pots and white cloths for the burial of the people of his senatorial District.”

@Mukhtar_Faru countered: “Please verify the facts thoroughly. Senator Rufa’i has covered tuition fees for over 200 students in his constituency and plans to assist more. The 2024 budget includes funding for 12 road constructions in his constituency.

@sanusialtine said: “This senator is a very good example of Nigerian politicians, may God make him amongst the first batch of beneficiaries of his donation.”

@Maxajee said: “That too is something considering the fact that everyone will need a pot and a white cloth at a certain time.”
