Reactions as Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf, demolishes state’s 50th jubilee monument

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has demolished a monument built to commemorate the state’s golden jubilee.
The edifice was one of the legacies of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The historic multi-million naira monument was renovated by Ganduje in 2017 at the cost of N160 million, according to Punch Newspaper.
The governor had earlier demolished shops built by the fence of the Sani Abacha Stadium at Kofar Mata, GSS Kofar Nasarawa facing IBB road and buildings by GGSS Dukawuya, Goron Dutse.
The Governor who has only been in office for two weeks, appears to have been preoccupied more by demolitions to the irritation of many Nigerians.
Tweeting with the handle, @DemolRewaju, a known PDP social media influencer said: “I’m not sure there are yet any examples of bad faith governance as the instances we’ve seen so far from Kano with Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf’s obvious vendetta against former Gov. Ganduje – this is simply bad faith governance or politics taken too far. A shame he was once in the PDP.”
Salihu Yakasai, who was the Kano State governorship candidate for the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), also knocked the Kano Governor via his Twitter handle, @dawisu. He said: “We’ve not seen any plans for a new Kano. We’ve not heard of ways to make Kano greater, all you’ve been doing since assuming office is vindictiveness, some justified others not so much. Once you lose the goodwill of Kano, there is no gaining it back, even if you’ll turn it to Mecca.”
Jafar Jafar, the publisher of Daily Nigerian, also expressed disgust by the recent demolition. He said via his Twitter handle, @JafarSJafar: “We must all condemn this thoughtless decision to demolish this monument, designed by a young female architect to commemorate Kano’s Golden Jubilee.
“I support the ongoing demolishing of private buildings in schools, hospitals, mosques, etc but not wanton destruction of public monuments/buildings, simply because they were built by Ganduje. I do not like the politician in Ganduje but like some of his projects as a governor.”
